The winners of the 2016 Ventura County Science Fair were announced at an awards ceremony this evening at the VCOE Conference and Educational Services Center in Camarillo. This year’s science fair featured 1,093 entries from 796 middle and high school students from throughout Ventura County. At tonight’s ceremony, 148 students received awards in 14 scientific categories including microbiology, engineering and chemistry. The winners were selected by approximately 100 local science, engineering and industry professionals who volunteered their time to serve as judges. Local companies and organizations selected additional winners in 12 special categories.
Approximately 40 Ventura County Science Fair winners will advance to the California State Science Fair on May 23-24 at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. In prior years, many Ventura County students have placed in the top three for their categories and some have been awarded Project of the Year at the statewide competition.
